Land Acknowledgment

West Hill Educare is located on the homelands of the Gayogo̱hó:nǫ'.
The
Gayogo̱hó:nǫ' are members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, an alliance of six sovereign nations with a historic and contemporary presence on this land. This confederacy precedes the establishment of the USA. We acknowledge the painful history of Gayogo̱hó:nǫ' dispossession, and honor the ongoing connection of Gayogo̱hó:nǫ' people, past and present, to these lands and waters.
WHE recognizes the Haudenosaunee flag as a symbol of unity and peace. We honor the legacy of the peacemaker Hiawatha, and the people of the Cayuga Nation.

As a child, our Founder and Director was raised by a single mother. To work, she enrolled Jude in child care when she was 2 years-old. After crying for several days, Jude told her mom, “You can leave now, Mrs. Lott will take care of me.” These positive, early experiences in quality programs inspired Jude’s life-long commitment to study early care and education and create programs that support both children and families.

At WHE, your family and child will benefit from:

  • Experienced educators who integrate child development expertise and their own parenting experience
  • Warm, reliable, relationship-based care for up to 9 children, between 2.5-5 years of age
  • Child-led, play-based learning opportunities, integrating the Educaring® Approach and Montessori principles into a curriculum that focuses on kindness, passion and compassion for all. We are committed to justice, peace education, social learning and enhancing children's sense of wonder for the natural world
  • A safe, home-based environment with a predictable schedule that provides the security needed to learn
  • A program that values all families and recognizes all family structures, home languages and cultures
  • A sense of belonging for both children and parents including, daily check-ins, a monthly newsletter and on-going parent support through bi-monthly parent support meetings, alternating with parent-coordinated bi-monthly family social time
  • Year-round child care from 8:30-4:30 Monday-Friday, just a mile up from the inlet on west hill. We offer early care at 8:00 a.m., by arrangement and follow the Ithaca City School Distric calendar with a week off during the summer

If you are looking for a high-quality child care community that is designed to meet your child care and parent support needs, you’ve found it!
